There are only two phenomena that go hand-in-hand with the seasons – weather and music. When it's frigid and dark during winter, we get those melancholy, blanket-wrapped, cuffing-season R&B churners. Come springtime, a lot of producers are so psyched to feel one measly ray of sunshine that they act on their over-exaggerated bliss, creating house bangers heard 'round the spring break club circuit (shouts to Afrojack's "Take Over Control)." As summertime approaches, the best kind of music starts to make its way into our ears – tropical, sun-kissed pool party music.
Enter young gun Ian Ewing, who recently recruited funk fiend Flamingosis for "Young," a sultry chill trap slow-burner that showcases the next-level production prowess of its creators. Rather than producing in loops and getting repetitive, like all the big room house dross that's finally dying out, the guys masterfully produce in-between the bars, with each 8-bar sequence containing a different variation of chord progressions or a funky oneshot. It's a languid head-bopper best ingested with a Tequlia Sunrise, curly straw (don't judge me), and a pair of sunglasses.
