Brett Gould serves up a double A-side for Glasgow Underground [EP]

Brett Gould first signed a track with Glasgow Underground almost seven years ago during the midst of a relaunch, and it's been a busy time between then and now for the London-based DJ and producer. After more recently mixing Snatch's 'Best of 2017' compilation and releasing on Solardo's Sola imprint, Brett Gould is currently sat in Beatport's Top 50 – ready to serve up his next production package back with Glasgow Underground.

Although returning to Glasgow Underground, Brett Gould has seen releases on Solid Grooves, Lost, Snatch! and of course the massive Drum Machine EP on Sola. Providing his next serving in the form of a double A-side, "Mess with the Freak" is the first track seeing it's release via Beatport. Although both tracks have gained early support from the likes of Mark Knight, Steve Lawler and De La Swing, "Mess with the Freak" received an early BBC Radio 1 debut from station favourite Monki. "Mess with the Freak" combines plenty of thunderous baseline alongside crisp hi-hats and some creepy vocals, without missing a serious breakdown, to provide a groove laden tech-house track with a twist.

“With ‘Mess with the Freak’ I found someone talking about their production so I ripped their words and then pitched the voice down with some reverb. I actually used some really clean drums and wanted to create a deeper groove for my sets rather than a constant tech-house feel which I do most of the time. The bass was from Retrologue which is a really underrated synth. It had a dirty analogue feel so I was happy working with those tools.”

The next track, released via Traxsource, comes in the form of "Hurry Up." Another track showcasing a further exploration of Brett's versatile tech house talents, "Hurry Up" is an instant set staple. Melodic synths, some female vocals, and a relentless baseline all packaged together into something a bit more atmospheric than it's predecessor, "Hurry Up" is designed to take over the dance floor and keep the energy rolling in a fevered yet flawless kind of way.

“With ‘Hurry Up’ again I found the hook by accident and then felt it suited a more house feel. The synths are quite electro and I just went on that vibe. After Kevin had signed them to Glasgow Underground, he asked me to give both tracks more punch so I put some extra mid to high percussion to balance the whole mix and give them both a bit more energy. His A & R was on point as always.”
