Kelowna, BC artist James Deen, real name Brennan Henderson, released his (mini) album Never Been Cool earlier this April. Following the release, remixes are starting to come out in anticipation for Deen's Never Been Cool: Remixes compilation. So far On Planets and Seakid Mollusk have offered their takes on Never Been Cool singles "Grin" and "Girl", respectively, and now we get to hear Oklahoma artist Celadon City and his take on another track from the album, "Throwing Rocks Up The Slide". Both Deen and Celadon City have worked with Secret Songs label head and electronic musician Ryan Hemsworth, and the sounds each producer brings to the table explains why they've each gotten the Hemsworth seal of approval.
For the remix, Celadon City lets the track breathe a bit, allowing for an overall spacier instrumental that dials back the trap-flavored beat of the original just enough to introduce some extra synthesizers and piano. The result is a triumphant, emotional tune that effectively builds to a strong climax, one rife with nostalgia and some straight-up beautiful instrumentation. Enigmatic artist Slow Magic even included the remix in the first volume of his Imaginary Friends mix on Soundcloud recently, so you know it's going to be a good tune.
