VALENTINE has been making waves since "Us," that was released earlier this year via rising internet collective and label Moving Castle. The budding 19-year-old producer is known for crafting a singular combination of bright pop with sophisticated underground electronica that's like candy to the ears. Last week he returned with a stellar new cover of Estelle and Kanye West's hit song "American Boy." Not satisfied with the format of a typical electronic remix, VALENTINE employed vocalist Sophie Meiers to transform Estelle’s vocal melody with her fittingly sultry timbre, effectively changing the track from a remix to an extensively re-crafted cover that takes one of the most recognizable motifs of modern pop music and flips it into a grooving electronic beat. The final touches come from technically brilliant jazz pianist, Rob Araujo, who added his personal flair of subtle but integral improvisations and chord voicings.
If you like what you hear, be on the lookout because VALENTINE is currently adding finishing touches to his forthcoming visual-concept album. The programmatic album is based around a love story, and is poised to be the basis for his debut conceptual live show.
