Tycho, AKA San Fransisco graphic artist and musician Scott Hansen has a new remix out. Coming off a recent collaboration with fellow Ghostly International duo Beacon, with whom he did a rework of his 2014 song "See", Hansen is striking while the iron is hot, working yet again with vocals. This time he's reworking indie darling Maggie Rogers and her smash hit and a Pharrell-approved song "Alaska". Rogers has performed "Alaska" on the Tonight Show stage and taken it on tour around the world, and now she's had the official remix treatment from Tycho to round out a pretty good year for her so far.
Hansen speeds up the tempo ever so slightly on the track, adding his usual electronic-tinged sound, including a drum machine and some swelling synths. He keeps a handful of the original track's atmospheric elements, thankfully, but chops and plays with them in a way that is refreshing. Adding a bed of dreamy, reverb-soaked pads underneath Rogers' breathy, crisp vocals provides an extra sense of fullness and grandiosity to everything, and the song is better for it.
