It's a weird time for Chet Faker fans, as the project was retired more than a year ago. The New York-based Australian producer & musician previously known as Chet Faker, real name Nick Murphy made the announcement to leave behind his old project and head in a different direction by producing under his given name and heading in a bit of a darker direction. When speaking on the name change, Murphy shares, "This huge wave came out and I broadened the framework. Instead of having to make finished tracks, I could just explore. That felt like the missing link between where I was and where I’m going now. Chet Faker was me trying to prove something to myself,” says Murphy. “But my tastes are pretty dynamic and I realized I’ve spent time resisting that. Now I want to put everything in. It’s not conceptual anymore. It’s just me, and it made sense to show that in a name. It feels like a rediscovery.”
Today he announced his upcoming 'Missing Link' project, which is the first taste of new music since "Stop Me (Stop You)," which came out last fall. Last week he teased fans with a Missing Link clip co-directed by Johann Rashid and Murphy. Today we have a first look at what Missing Link will be; a new compilation of singles that demonstrates the sonic shift between his past life, Chet Faker, and present life Nick Murphy. The EP will feature 5 new singles out today via Downtown Records and Interscope and available to stream and order HERE.
'Missing Link' kicks things off with the first single "Your Time" featuring Kaytranada which premiered earlier today via Zane Lowe’s Beats1 show. A gloomy darker downtempo jam once again displaying the shift in his sonic palate. The EP also includes the warped record "Bye", "Forget About Me", which was also shared on Zane Lowe today, “Weak Education,” a dancier single and "I'm Ready."
Alongside this announcement, Murphy will bring his live shows across the globe in an all new headline tour which will see him stop in North America, Australia and Europe.
