In case you missed it, Skrillex's flagship record label OWSLA uncaged its inaugural HOWSLA compilation in its entirety last week. Perhaps most known for its hard-hitting trap and dubstep, OWSLA took their position as arguably electronic music's premiere tastemaker, transformed it into a tangible asset, and injected it into a house lens.
Wedged in between remarkable efforts from white-hot bass producer JOYRYDE and vets like Chris Lake and Alex Metric is "What's Going On," an absolute flamethrower of a tune from French house guru Tony Romera.

Evidenced by a string of wonky originals, like the moombah/electro hybrid "Never Give A F" on his own SANS MERCI imprint, Tony Romera has never been one to shy away from genre boundaries. Using funky synth work under a soulful vocal sample, he somehow coalesces elements of nu-disco and bass house in "What's Going On" to create a truly unique track. The sound design in the drop is absurd, with crisp acid tones reminiscent of old-school Boys Noize slicing through its Gesaffelstein-esque arrangement.
Featuring Habstrakt, Autoerotique, and Wiwek, among others, HOWSLA is available now on all popular streaming platforms.
