San Francisco-based dream pop/garage rock band Hot Flash Heat Wave are today announcing their forthcoming sophomore LP entitled Soaked (out June 2, 2017 via OIM Records) as well as sharing the lead single/video via EARMILK.
Acting as our first shimmering taste of Soaked, "Gold Years" is laced with candied hooks, fuzzy guitar and new wave-esque tones. With a playful sophistication, Hot Flash Heat Wave remind us of The Drums' strong pop mentality and Smith Westerns' slacker attitude.
Hot Flash Heat Wave's Nathaniel Blum describes "Gold Years" as a song about catching himself "growing up too fast" as well as an exploration of "youthful bliss and mystery that carry on as we get older". The DIY-esque visual accompaniment in turn reflects these very sentiments, where the band took "imaginative scenarios that we had as kids and amplified them to an absurd degree".
The colorful LP in full was produced by Jeff Saltzman (who famously produced The Killers' Hot Fuss) and mixed by Eric Broucek (The Drums, DFA Records). Soaked will lead Hot Flash Heat Wave to embark on their first national tour this spring.
