Hodgepodge, the latest album from Seattle-based producer Samurai Del, has a number of solid hits over the course of its 13 tracks. And while I would highly recommend checking out the entire project, my personal favorite comes in the form of the “Catman’s Interlude” a collaborative effort between Samurai Del and fellow Seattlean (not sure if that’s a word) J’Von.
If you’re not familiar with J’Von, give him a look. Potato, his most recent project, is all sorts of quirky and funky rap that feels incredibly natural and true to the young rhymer. Thankfully, “Catman’s Interlude” is an extension of that vibe.
“Catman’s Interlude” finds both Samurai Del and J’Von flexing in their respective ways. Samurai sets up a perfect scenario for J to come in and do his thing with funky synths, pianos, and some very sweet guitar licks. Meanwhile, J’Von hits his stride with his casual cadence and rhyme scheme to deliver a track that will leave you excited for all the potential bubbling up in the Seattle music scene.
Give “Catman’s Interlude” a spin above and be sure to check out both Samurai Del’s Hodgepodge and J’Von’s Potato ASAP.
