Vancouver based Ekali's SoundCloud feed has been quiet for some months now and as expected, listeners were anticipating new material from the artist. The young producer has crafted quality remixes of huge tracks from Gallant's "Weight in Gold" to Ta-ku's "Long Time No See" ft. Atu, creating a significant following on the SoundCloud community. Ekali's unique rendition of Flume's "Smoke And Retribution" is everything you'd expect from the talented producer and more. Alternately, Ekali begins the track with a focus on Australian songstress, Kučka's serene vocals, audibly panning alongside white noise and heavy bass. The drop kicks in with jarring rattles that seep into the ears. The shattering bass and synths yo-yo in and out, taking listeners on a colourful rollercoaster of sounds. The glitch and intermittent slips of silences create for an unreal vibe, finding a happy medium in the beauty of the melody and strange sounds.
