London production collective Flamingo Pier has no shortage of good vibes to go around. Having started as a party night, residents Luke Walker, Brad Craig, and Don Jones decided to take the party to the studio. Their debut EP, which is out now, is the perfect blend of DFA’s disco dance punk and Australia’s knack for all things synth and nu-disco. Needless to say, get ready to shuffle.
From the opening bongos and keyboards of “Waiting For You,” you know you need to grab your shades, a cocktail, maybe a pineapple, and whatever else necessary for some sunset cruising. Now throw in sunny guitars with some infectious ooh’s and ooo’s, and you’ll never look back. “Say It Like You Mean” it carries on with the funky, disco vibes—getting a little moodier. Flamingo Pier lays down a fat, groovy bassline and brings a steamy, too cool for school attitude to get you moving. The EP closes out with a rocking, sway-worthy track called “Too Far.” It’s the epitome of beach cruising.
