Szjerdene is a name that's been popping up lately since the Amsterdam-based vocalist appeared on Lapalux and Bonobo's most recent albums. She's also been dropping great songs of her own from time to time, turning heads with tracks like "Arrow(s)" and "Are You Here." The latter, released about a month ago, was the first glimpse at her forthcoming EP, Find Me. Now you can hear the title track, a collaboration with NYC producer Quays.
"FInd Me" is the most experimental work we've seen from Szjerdene, and Quays's involvement is responsible. His production is cold and threadbare, queasily lurching forward like a ship adrift atop an uneasy ocean. His use of empty, silent space gives Szjerdene plenty of room to show off, her voice fearless despite the tension embedded in the beat. It all unravels eventually, swelling into richly textured waves that bring everything safely back to shore. Keep an eye out for the full EP, out July 24th.
