Heavy Mellow remixes Marian Hill's "Lips"

Brooklyn-based artist Heavy Mellow (formerly Heavy x Mellow) has been on our radar for a few months now, ever since we heard his remix of Norwegian artist Lido's "Lost." Known as Everett Romano to his friends, he is the definition of a "producer's producer" and creates remixes that throw the listener into depths of thought. With the current environment of overloaded upbeat, high-energy dance remixes, Romano's music doesn't require nearly as much brainpower as his output. It's definitely different, but we like it.

Close ties with unique electronic artists Cashmere Cat and Trippy Turtle don't hurt the development of his sound and they do say that you are who you hang with. His remix of Philadelphia based group Marian Hill's track "Lips" took what was an originally bubbly tune and completely smooths it out in his signature ambient style, keeping the beats heavy and the synths mellow. And as always, it's full of intricate soundscapes that give us the impression he is constantly searching for answers in his productions.

"When I first heard the original, I fell in love with the vocals. I imagined my chords making the vocals sound more vulnerable," Romano said, "I wanted the production to tell a story, to feel like you're living in a movie."
