18-year-old emcee IshDARR is a Milwaukee native in the precarious position of calling a middling scene home. Existing outside of a traditional rap ecosystem comes with its own set on challenges and obstacles. On the one hand, it can be very beneficial when exploring and establishing a unique identity; outside of a major rap market, one can operate free of regional influences and set standards. On the other, a scene can provide both shelter for an emerging artist and a platform to properly showcase growth.
For IshDARR, the biggest hurdle will be getting himself on the national stage and making a play for rap audiences far more accessible to those from Atlanta or Chicago or New York or LA. He'll have to make a big statement, one too big to be ignored, to gain recognition. One thing he won't have to overcome, though, is a talent gap. IshDARR is a solid young prospect.
Let his latest record, "Vibe", serve as his bold introduction. Produced by French beatmaker Jean Kengz, the record is representative of its title, exuding a warm, easygoing energy. "You can't stop me, nigga. I'm not moving," he raps, and everything about the record suggests that may be true. "Vibe" is the first single from IshDARR's upcoming album, Old Soul, Young Spirit, and one can only hope for a lot more of the same. Maybe Milwaukee is here to stay.
