Manila Killa injects Bearson’s “Pink Medicine” with an exciting energy

Manila Killa only surfaced last year, but the yung, trap-squatting, prayer-hands tossing member of Moving Castle has been on an indomitable winning streak. His remixes of London Grammar’s “Strong” and Dawn Golden’s “All I Want” have each enjoyed over a million plays and counting. And congratulations are in order, as he recently signed to elite electronic booking agency, AM ONLY—along with his other successful music project, Hotel Garuda, which he makes half of.

Manila Killa’s latest release is like if Bearson’s originally chill “Pink Medicine” got drunk on tropical house. The pitch bends are fantastically strange, and it’s worth mentioning the beautifully smooth progression Manilla’s composed for the intro. The first minute is a sweet sail into the horizon, and then all of a sudden, you’ve docked on a private island with your best friends and dillydally the days away.

Regarding the song, Manila Killa said: Pink Medicine is definitely one of my favorite tracks at the moment, and when I was asked to remix it, I felt very honored. What really captured my attention and cultivated inspiration for my remix of it was the chopped up vocals that Bearson cut – I heard the original sample he used for the vocals and I was blown away at the intricacy of his attention to detail in chopping up particular parts of the sample. My spin on the track reflects how I feel about my own life and what it holds – excitement and spontaneity, so I hope listeners are able to channel a similar feeling in the remix.
