Cashmere Cat shares the "first of many" collabs with DJ Mustard, "Ice Rink" [Download]

Rising Norwegian production star Cashmere Cat has only released two four-track EPs of his own material, but they were striking enough to make him a near-overnight success.  2014 was his year, his collaborations with stars like Ariana Grande, Ludacris, and Wiz Khalifa elevating him to a completely different level of opportunity.  Now you can add DJ Mustard to that list.  Today Cashmere Cat, born Magnus Høiberg, gave away "Ice Rink" as a free download, apparently the first of many beats they worked on together.  It's safe to say that you'll be hearing Høibergs instantly recognizable production all over the charts this year.

Despite DJ Mustard's involvement, Cashmere Cat owns "Ice Rink."  It's another one of his typically bouncy numbers, with his rolling snares, sighing vocals, and starry-eyed demeanor all accounted for.  Aside from the "Mustard on the beat" tagline, it's hard to tell what DJ Mustard contributes here, a remarkable testament to the unique abilities of Cashmere Cat.  He's set for a debut album later this year and a U.S. tour in February, dates are below.

I received my degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and Virginia is still home. Apart from my yearly pilgrimage to Moogfest and occasional shows in DC, Detroit, and New York, I like to stick to the fringes, with an eye always open toward music that is forward-thinking and unique, whatever the genre.
