IMF as an imprint has grown at an organic pace since the initial release of Sphinx back in 2011. First intended as an exclusive outlet for Marcel Fengler material meant to shine light on his more raw-edged productions, by 2015 it has slowly evolved into a close-knitted household of collective minds who exhibit Fengler's similar outlook of 'quality over quantity' with music production. Uninterested in playing the numbers game regarding catalogue growth, the label's concise index already features carefully crafted contributions by Echoplex and Thomas Hessler whose respective styles push the envelope on a forward-thinking class of electronic music. Now entering the imprint's fourth phase, Unit EP is a 4 track family affair including each of the aforementioned artists and new label affiliate, Vril.
With an A-side made up of smooth and wistful rhythms prescribed by both Fengler and Hessler, the B-side follows sequence as it dwindles further into an exploration of heady postures from Echoplex and Vril's mind-bending formulas. To prepare you for the release, EARMILK is hosting an advance stream of Thomas Hessler's smooth floater,"The Escaper". After the mesmerizing display of textural depth on Perception, it's really no surprise Hessler follows-up with another mistifying track that takes the mind on a dulcet journey as lustrous synths drift freely over tenacious kicks that positions listeners in a reflective state of mind.
