Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth is full of fresh ideas, with his new label, Secret Songs, offering a unique approach which he defines as "free downloads, friends only, bi-weekly." The project will use Hemsworth's rising popularity to boost the status of likeminded artists all over the world, and if his collaborators on new album Alone for the First Time are any indication, Secret Songs is sure to be a goldmine.
A handful of individual tracks have already seen the light of day through the new label, but the first larger release has been revealed as the Platinum Planet EP from New Zealand's Leno Lovecraft. A charming, whimsical collection of synth pop, Platinum Planet shares Hemsworth's tendency toward twee melodies and eclectic combinations, but takes things in its own direction with Lovecraft's childlike vocals and sugary production style. Keep an eye on Secret Songs in the future, they're sure to have a steady stream of new music on deck in 2015.
