AtillA flips Spooky Black's "Without You" on its head [Download]

The last time I covered Brooklyn-based producer AtillA, real name Atilla Ural, it was for his remix of FKA twigs' "Video Girl" as part of the duo Hercules Handsome. Adding muscle to what was already a strong track, they lead it away from R&B and into the electronic music world.

This time AtillA has taken on another R&B weirdo, Spooky Black, with similarly impressive results.  He takes the sleepy vibe of the du-rag-adorned singer's hit "Without You," and trades it in for a more upbeat trap sound.  Starting out with smoldering ambience and a wonky rhythm, the track eventually explodes into all-out decadence.  Once again, AtillA has proven his ability to take a song and reveal its evil twin.  You can download the remix through his Facebook page.

I received my degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and Virginia is still home. Apart from my yearly pilgrimage to Moogfest and occasional shows in DC, Detroit, and New York, I like to stick to the fringes, with an eye always open toward music that is forward-thinking and unique, whatever the genre.
