There is something beautiful about minimalism, especially when it is paired with introspective lyrics, and new track by LA transplant Public School is exactly that. “Don’t Wake Me Up,” is the first release off of his upcoming EP that is due to come out this winter and recently premiered on The 405. Currently in the studio, Public School has been working tirelessly with breakthrough producer Kygo to finish the project.
Backed only by a simple bass line it is the definition of acoustic and experimental indie pop, held up by his powerful vocals. Co-written by Allie X, his styling’s and lyrics speak for themselves on the ballad, which chronicles falling into the rabbit hole that is depression and instability. The pain in his voice is palpable, and only enhanced by the basic, core elements used in the track. It is that desire to just sleep, which anyone who has ever been down it would understand.
