Other than the recent one-off "Wake Forever," we haven't heard much solo material lately from Toronto producer Will Diebel, a.k.a. Deebs. He's been keeping busy with remixes and a noteworthy SSENSE mix (streaming below), but his last solo effort was 2013's Awry EP. Now Deebs has announced another quick EP, Songs 4 U By Me, due sometime this fall.
After the long wait, the EP's lead single "At Last" has a fitting title. The track opens with spelunking stop-start percussion, which sprouts a snaking synth arrangement. Things really get going once extra bass and the "boy you should know" R&B sample join the mix. As soon as it reaches its full power "At Last" fades back into the ether, a tease just as much as it is a banger. Songs 4 U By Me is similarly brief; hopefully Will Diebel is biding his time until a full-length Deebs LP drops.
