Tinashe and Dev Hynes "Bet" on trap sound

Rising R&B star Tinashe teams up with Blood Orange's Devonte Hynes for a change of sound on the trap-inspired "Bet."  Tinashe released the track today in anticipation of her debut album, Aquarius, out October 7 on RCA.  Where Tinashe's other songs draw from pop, "Bet" is a pulsing, electronic melody backed with atmospheric samples and huge bass.

The beat comes in hot and heavy after a brief yet deceptive wind chime introduction.  Then, Tinashe moans over the intro before heavy bass kicks in.  She jumps in, sounding like a more vulnerable Rihanna before asserting herself in the chorus, telling her audience to "bet on it."  Towards the end of the track, TInashe spits a quick, sultry rap verse before ghostly, sampled vocals lead into an epic Dev Hynes electric guitar solo finish.  The song's eclectic sound can no doubt be attributed to the fact that Hynes wrote and produced "Bet."  The change in sound may also be a response to FKA twigs's success with a more minimal electronic sound.

With one big hit under her belt and a seemingly promising debut LP on the way, Tinashe is following in the footsteps of fellow single-name R&B artists Rihanna and Beyonce in becoming the genre's go-to girl.
