While I've always loved the older stuff from Boston-based electronic duo Arms & Sleepers, I've been out of the loop as to what they've been up to in the last few years. So, I was happy to see a new track, "Swim Team," surface last week courtesy of the one and only EARMILK. It's off their forthcoming album of the same name, due October 28th via Fake Chapter. Now after previously sharing "Swim Team" and "Hurry Slowly," they've shared a third single, "Tiger Tempo."
In days past, my go-to Arms and Sleepers record was Black Paris 86, with a gorgeous but downcast mood pervasive throughout. The tracks yawned and at times shed quiet tears, sunlight rarely peeking through. "Hurry Slowly" is similar, but on their two newest tracks the sound is refreshingly bright. On "Tiger Tempo" they wrap a glitchy vocal loop and a Flying Lotus-esque beat with growing layers of lush, shimmering production. Arms & Sleepers have been doing their thing for a long time, so while they may be adapting to the current chillwave/hop sound to an extent, they'll probably teach some of these young guns a thing or two.
