British newcomers Zola Blood are getting ready to release their debut Meridian EP on Pond Life Songs this fall. Last month, the four-piece released “Grace,” a hauntingly beautiful track filled with sweltering synths and melancholy vocals. Their second single “Meridian” follows the same basic framework, but the momentum of the soft percussion creates an enticing drive and flow to the track that gets intertwined with some lush, delicate instrumentation and vocals. It’s very lovely!
This is one of those tracks that’s best listened to through a pair of really good speakers or headphones. Zola Blood has paid attention to all the little dreamy details to make for a wonderful listening experience à la Radiohead, Caribou, or Beacon. There are so many different layers and harmonies in everything that’s going on, it becomes sort of magical.
