After releasing the disappointing "Gold Silver Diamond" a few weeks back, New Orleans-based duo Generationals ring in the beginning of fall with the ironic "Black Lemon." The single comes as the band gears up to release their fourth album, Alix, due on September 16 courtesy of Polyvinyl Records .
"Black Lemon" starts with a clutter of drum machine noise quickly followed by an infectious percussion melody. The two sounds complement each other throughout the track, clouding out melancholy lyrics with cheery, upbeat sound. Meanwhile, vocalists Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer sing wistfully about that universal feeling of leaving home and striking out at something new.
"Black Lemon" picks up where the Generationals left us with stellar third album, Heza, in 2013. Hopefully, their new album follows in the footsteps of Heza in terms of its buoyant sound and catchy, pop sensibilities.
The band's latest tour starts in October and will bring them to venues across the country, including the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, the Troubadour in Los Angeles and U Street Music Hall in Washington, DC. Be sure to check out the live show when they come to your city.
