Birthday Boy finally released his first official EP yesterday entitled Colors, introducing the young producer's style with some beautiful vocal additions. The EP slides between funk, deep house, neo-soul and hip-hop over the span of five infectious tracks. Live instrumentals and guest vocals serve as Colors backbone; best described as dance music with a hip-hop sound pallet.
One standout track is "My Light", which takes a small sway away from the electric vibe of the rest of the EP and delves into very clear R&B influences, most notably D’Angelo. Rounded out by original vocals, this track is sure to get you moving. On the other side of the spectrum, Birthday Boy gives us "Eyes Shut". This track still has the R&B feel to it, but takes the audience into a electric funk state. Original vocals by Marlon James and Tanika Charles will be stuck in your head for more than a minute.
