Your Old Droog has dropped another example of why the hip hop world is comparing him to Nas. On the back of actual rumours that Droog was just an alias for Nas to release new music under, Droog is back, this time spitting over a Mac Miller beat for “Sleepers…”. While little is known about the reportedly Brooklyn based rapper, he already has a massively popular EP release under his belt. It surfaced a couple of months ago and the Your Old Droog EP proves this enigma not only deserves all the hype, but also the comparisons to Esco.
“Sleepers…” attempts to quash all doubters, with Droog executing an educated flow at an effortless pace that calls out the media for talking “that nasty s***”. Although Mac Miller’s production is delicious, the highlight of this new track arguably comes when the beat abruptly stops and allows Droog to flex over nothing but silence before an excerpt of Next’s “Too Close” shows it’s not only 90’s rappers that get free publicity from Droog’s mysterious aura. Just like questions surrounding the moon landing and Area 51, Your Old Droog’s identity may be shrouded by conspiracy theories for a while yet but there’s no denying he’s an outstanding prospect.
