Veteran beatmaker DJ Shadow refuses to rest on the laurels of his turn-of-the-century heyday. Lately the producer, born Josh Davis, has been pushing on into the uncharted waters of bass music while still showing love to his hip-hop roots.
Today Davis dropped The Liquid Amber EP, the first release from his recently-announced label of the same name. The EP is comprised of two new tracks, "Ghost Town" and "Mob," as well as a juked-out remix of DJ Shadow classic "Six Days" by Machinedrum. As far as the new Shadow tracks are concerned, they represent the two ends of the spectrum that he commands. "Ghost Town" he describes as "a ride through the micro-genres within the future bass umbrella," while "Mob" is a "stripped-down, Cali-certified head-nodder." Now that his Liquid Amber label is up and running, it will be exciting to see what is produced in the future.
