Co-headlining the summer leg of the Honda Civic Tour, Grouplove and Portugal. The Man are two groups that are currently firing on all cylinders. While Grouplove have been inspiring with their feel good music over the past few years, their new album digs deeper into their bag of tricks to showcase a growing depth in their sound. The LA five-piece, having already left their mark on some of 2014's biggest festivals, including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Coachella, look to bring their always ecstatic energy level to the upcoming tour.
Portugal. The Man, on the other hand, have been known to alternate between a tame and more pulsing sound, all the while injecting their experimental style into the mix. While the Portland-based group seem to be constantly releasing music, with seven full length albums in eight years, their remixes have remained some of their best kept secrets, which have included songs from The Sound of Animals Fighting, Junip and others. However, in lieu of kicking off the Civic Tour, they have taken Grouplove's "Shark Attack" for a spin.
Within the opening seconds of the remix of "Shark Attack" it becomes apparent that listeners better strap in for a wild ride. With layers of effect-filled sounds peaking around every corner, the mix relies on either the driving bassline or energy from the song's chorus to bring everything together. Throughout, Portugal. The Man create a sound that does not seem far off from a song of their own, manipulating Hannah's vocals at one point to sound like just like those of John Gourley at his lower end.
