Props to UK label Hyperdub for boasting one of the best arsenals of female artists in experimental electronic music. In addition to newer arrivals like Fatima Al Qadiri, Laurel Halo, and Jessy Lanza, Sara Abdel-Hamid, a.k.a. Ikonika, has been a noteworthy producer in a male-dominated world for years.
This week, the London-based Ikonika announced a new EP, Position, due on August 25. With this news, she's shared one of the tracks, "Praxis", as well as a Hyperdub-heavy mix for FACT. "Praxis" is a dancefloor banger, plain and simple, mixing a sturdy low end and multilayered percussion with razor-sharp synth melodies.
August 25 is looking like a pretty epic day for new releases, with long-awaited followups from Rustie and The Bug dropping along with Ikonika's promising new Position EP.
