Sometimes I take for granted how many great artists are constantly emerging from Canada. One of the latest is Toronto-based producer Deebs, born Will Diebel. He may not be a household name yet, but he has the potential; his Clams Casino-sized beats and otherworldly melodies form a unique blend of witch and hip-hop.
Now Deebs has shared a gorgeous new track, "Wake Forever," a staple of his recent live performances and the first taste of his next album, due in September. The song starts with a few lonely vocal loops, then a fog of subtle bass settles. When the beat and melodies kick in, the song takes off through a dense, lush forest of hypnotic sound. Witch can feel like a dead genre sometimes, but Deebs is breathing all kinds of life into the sound here. Grab a free download over at XLR8R.
