Raury is barely old enough to purchase a pack, yet he has managed to find a way to make king tobacco not only sound romantic, but more empathetic. A short, barely developed message accompanies "Cigarette Song", however what it lacks in length, it makes up for in depth; it simply reads: "Everybody has an addiction." In one swift, concise sentence and throughout the nearly four minute song, the young artist manages to strip away the judgement typically associated with smoking or dependency, to replace it with tenderness and yearning.

Not only does he write his own music, but Raury is also an accomplished guitar player and burgeoning producer. Although he has only shared a limited number of releases thus far, each incorporate various styles, creating a sound that is uniquely his. While he is from Atlanta, comparisons to the trap styles that dominate the city would be misguided. No aspects of his "Cigarette Song" or his previous single ,"God's Whisper", scream illegality, or clubbing. Rather, they both utilize his well thought out lyrics and beautifully alternative production.

"Cigarette Song" demonstrates a more refined Raury, opting to fully prove that he can sing with the best of them. Pleading to his significant other and listeners that he would share a square with this girl, towards the hook his story takes an emotional turn, as he belts out that he can't love her the right way. The acoustic guitar and light percussion add emphasis to the passionate situation that he finds himself discussing. It is as touching as it is spontaneously heart wrenching; clearly painting the picture that lust can be an obsession more powerful than the last puff.

Raury has some undeniable talent. As he continues to mature and come into his own, his music should explore some interesting ideas and push his boundaries. He can definitely be a serious force in the industry and culture, which makes him someone to keep tabs on. Check out "Cigarette Song", then go through his short discography. You will not be disappointed.
