Recently, UK-based grime/dub producer Kevin Martin, aka The Bug, shared two tracks from his forthcoming LP, Angels & Devils, set to drop August 25 via Ninja Tune. Now he's shared two more, both collaborations, "Void" featuring Liz Harris of Grouper, and "Function" featuring Manga.
Like the album title suggests, both track pairings have been juxtapositions of violence and calm. First it was the battering ram of Death Grips collab "Fuck a Bitch" vs. the somber "Save Me" with Gonjasufi. This time Harris provides the vocals for the spooky "Void" while "Function" is another all-out assault; when Manga announces "it's about to heat up" he isn't joking. Most importantly, both tracks are great in their own ways, I for one have been waiting to hear the Grouper collab for a long time, and it is oh-so satisfying. Angels & Devils is looking like one of the albums of the year, August 25 really can't come soon enough. Until then, you can check out all four tracks below:
