Lil Wayne & Drake mean business with 'Tha Carter V', "Believe Me"

We knew it was coming but now it's here. With Young Money’s cash cow on board Lil Wayne is back with the first single from Tha Carter V. Drake features on “Believe Me” and performs a typically contagious hook with a fiery verse to match, he somewhat revisits his “Trophies” tone on this one. Produced by Boi-1da and Vinylz, “Believe Me” proves there's life yet in one of rap’s biggest sleeping giants with rumours that his next record could be his last. Weezy is only 31 years old though, so we’ll take the retirement speculation with a pinch of salt. YMCMB’s top draws exchange blistering lyrical displays and by the end of the first few plays “Believe Me” becomes infectious, so it’s your call on how huge the intricate beat and extrovert hook will get in the weeks to come. Despite Drake’s obvious hot streak and current chokehold on the game, he elevates his label mate’s performance much like he did on Tha Carter IV highlight, “She Will”.

“Diamonds in my Rollie face, cannot be exfoliated. They think I'm associated, I'm the one that orchestrated. Yayo get her ass whipped, whip that ass like horses racin'. Ain't 'bout what you walk away from, it's 'bout what you walk away with. Dead Presidents, them coffins vacant, I must be doin' somethin'”

If Weezy’s next record is set to be his last, and if this track is a sign of things to come from Tha Carter V, then it looks like he’s intent on walking away with a classic album, "Believe Me".
