Midwestern producer Shklovsky has remixed Intellect MC’s “Get Up” and released it as a prelude to a forthcoming album. A pastiche of pop and hip hop, the track cobbles together into something clean and catchy. Cello and synth swells compose the bass, opening among claps and wood blocks. It’s sometimes poignant and sometimes playful. Think Small Black’s Moonkiller but cleaner. Think RAC’s Strangers Pt. 1 but dirtier.
Four-on-the-floor beats break the reverbed opening, punctuating the ruminative bass. Snares drenched in static keep things from being too crisp. Toms make breaks new again. Simplicity is the name of the game. Small variations continuously breathe new life into the layers.
This track is called “Get Up” for a reason. It's available for free at the Facebook page.
