If you couldn't tell, weird bass-heavy music from creatively unencumbered artists is currently all the rage in both popular and experimental music. It used to be that interested fans had to seek sketchy underground parties to hear structure-free tunes, but now with help from labels like Mad Decent and TeamSupreme even Vegas clubs are getting down and dirty with off-beat drum loops and new-age sound design. One of the current underground leaders in the movement for bizarre is Hawaiian producer, Mr. Carmack.
First appearing on EARMILK in early 2013, Mr. Carmack has been steadily gaining a dedicated fanbase with his unconventional beats and attractive sound design. On par with his style, Carmack's recent edit of the latest Major Lazer and Pharrell Williams track, "Aerosol Can", hits hard in all the right areas. Most of Pharrell's lyrics have been removed, but the tune is compensated with a ring-modulated analogue stab and the Major Lazer vox we all know and love. Though most likely intended for his live sets, Carmack's refix packs a wallop in the low-end and grooves harder than the backroads of Central LA.
