Ghostwriting has always been an elephant-in-the-room subject for hip hop heads. Though it may come across as deceitful for someone to seemingly buy their way to the top (the infamous Diddy line, "I don't write rhymes, I write checks" speaks volumes) this method can be viewed upon as a small time payment in order for a big success in the future. Additionally, it gives an artist some creative methods of showcasing new material that might not be suited for them (if Aesop Rock wrote a club track, his fans would be up in arms; giving that material to ASAP Rocky would allow for a win-win situation.) Florida songwriter-turned-rapper Eskeerdo has been behind many of the biggest forces within the industry, such as Nicki Minaj and Big Sean, and 2014 is the year in which he'll take things into his own hands.

Rapping over the DJ Infamous flipped, Ruben Haze remix of Miike Snow's "Devil's Work," (try saying that 5 times in a row) Esk paints a rags to riches picture that constantly goes back and forth to reference his troubled past. The contrasting efforts between the emcee's rhymes and the light and melodic efforts from the Swedish pop group create a meaningful experience. Check it out and watch out for Eskeerdo's self EP, which is currently locked down for an April release date.
