Slaughterhouse – "Party" (Prod. Cardiak & Just Blaze)

Slaughterhouse was forge by the fires of Golden Era rappity-rap and commercial intolerance to each member's individual brand of the craft. Together they operate as a rather formidable force, a supergroup of major label castaways that were just on the verge of being swept up by a wave of young, radio friendly pseudo-lyricists before finding each other. Royce Da 5'9", Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, and Joe Budden are all dynamic MCs in their own rights, but there is something about fellowship that stokes the competitive fire within them. Few groups in history could boast they bring more firepower to the table, and there is an overwhelming confidence exuded by each of the four horsemen whenever their unique craftsmanship is displayed side-by-side in rapid succession. Simply put, Slaughterhouse is both a saving grace for some of the finest technicians of our time and a triumph for purists in rap's modern age.

It has been over a year since Slaughterhouse released its Shady Records debut Welcome to: Our House, and the group has maintained a relatively low profile since tasting its first commercial success, landing at #2 on the Billboard charts. Now, it appears the group is about to kick it in high gear, announcing Just Blaze as the executive producer of their next album and heading out on tour to build anticipation. With the tour announcement comes a new song entitled "Party," produced by Cardiak and the aforementioned Just Blaze, and it feels like a sign of good things to come.

"Party" is reminiscent of everything fans love about Slaughterhouse: the record is chalked full of witty wordplay and it has an attitude that is dismissive of hip-hop charlatans. It possesses a rawness that has become a rarity in rap. Crooked I kicks off the record before handing the baton to Royce, who delivers his signature humor, and Budden closes the show. While all provide performances worthy of their respective resumés, Joell Ortiz steals the show with bars like, "You fake gat clapper, mad actor / I'm backwards, watch how this pump give you mad asthma / Put your punk story in it's last chapter / I fucked the pumps off a D but you a cat stacker." Pure poetry. This is vintage hip-hop at its finest.
