After breaking arguably the record of the year back in March, UK-based Breach is still riding high into the end of 2013. The mayhem around “Jack” may have pigeonholed less veteran producers, but for Ben Westbeech it’s just been the high point of a year that’s included standout remixes for Maya Jane Coles and Rachel Row, not to mention an appearance on the legendary Essential Mix.
His latest track marks a new frontier, with “Grey Matter” released in partnership with Sony’s new Walkman 3-in-1 WH series. Together with filmmaker Winstan Whitter and skater Lucien Clarke, Breach has produced an exclusive track that links back to an advertising meets documentary spot.
The track itself is classic Westbeech: a bouncy, looped house beat meant for the thickest subs. A mid-section percussion line gives it a darker feel, and while it’s a lyricless instrumental, it’s easy to envision acapellas of “Jack” or “Let’s Get Hot” effortlessly dropped over during a DJ set. As part of the Sony launch, Breach is giving this track away for free, but don’t sit on it, it’s only available to the first 2,500 people.
