London-based folk-rock band Killing Fields of Ontario will be releasing their newest album How the World Ends on October 28 – but until then, you can get a glimpse of this five-piece’s signature grit via standout single “Our Place to Drown.”
The song opens like a calming summer storm, with gentle rainfall offset by drizzling keystrokes. Emotive, textured vocals and pelleting percussion add drama to the downpour, in an angst-ridden style reminiscent of Frightened Rabbit.
We’re thrown into a full-on flood right before minute three – drowning in rich vocals and drenched in contemporary folk-synth. And then, just as quickly as it began, the clouds pass over and we’re just left with the aftermath of emotions that songs like these instill.
Stream the single below, and if you like what you hear, pick up How the World Ends later this month.
