In the past couple of years, we have seen the likes of Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, and others rise to the forefront of the folk-rock scene (and for good reason). For two of the aforementioned groups, they have one thing in common: Half Moon Run – a Montreal-based quartet group – has supported them on their respective tours. Having come together with the help of a Craiglist ad, and consisting of Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, Dylan Phillips, and Isaac Symonds, Half Moon Run are preparing for the global release of their debut album titled Dark Eyes. With an expected release date of July 23rd here in the States via Glassnote Records, and July 1st for you U.K. folk via Communion Music and Island Records, Half Moon Run give us "Unofferable" as a little preview of what to look forward to.
Coming across as a soothing and introspective track, "Unofferable" is made complete with acoustic guitar chords plucked at a perfect pace, while interlaced with soft drums and delicate piano notes. But above all, the vocals provided by Devon charms your attention with a benevolent, and vulnerable, passion that holds steady for the entirety of the track. This sense of passion behind his words make "Unofferable" a worth-while track, and has put Dark Eyes on my list of must-hear albums for 2013.
