Mashup Monday – We're back again with some of the freshest mashes to start your week off right. These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop you're searching and instead settle down at your computer… turn up your speakers… and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let's GO!
You may have noticed that the EARMILK team has been rolling out their Top tracks/Best tracks of 2012 this past week or so, and it didn't seem fair for me not to come up with some type of list for you guys. In terms of mashups, 2012 has been quite explosive for both the quantity and quality of mashups that were released. I know some naysayers would say that the quality has become over-saturated and dull due to the plague of people trying their hand at mashups, but there are still some top-notch stuff being made. And what you find below are 50, yep, you read that right, 50 mashups that I consider the "top" or "best" mashups of 2012. Now this is a completely subjective list, but I've been busy cutting down and adding tracks to this list for the past 5-6 hours.
To give you an idea of what the criteria to make the list, I put a strong emphasis on how unique a mashup sounded. If it sounded too generic or if it sounded off-key, then that's strike 1. Yeah, you'll hear some Carly Rae Jepsen, some Deadmau5, and some Lil Wayne within this list, but you'll also hear some Icona Pop, some Purity Ring, and even some Breaking Bad. Most importantly, there needed to be a play-ability factor within the track. All of these tracks I would have no problem listening relatively frequently, but with almost 3 1/2 hours of music within these 50 mashups alone, you're pretty much set for a long-ass drive.
For this "Best of 2012" Mashup Monday segment, the list is unordered. With an expansive list covering artists such as The Hood Internet, DJ Bahler, Colatron, DJ Topsider, Drivas, The Jane Doze, 3LAU, Kap Slap, DJ Trademark, Bruneaux, Mashup Germany, Terry Urban, Compson Sound, Mitch Mash, No Pets Allowed, LeeDM101, White Noise Mashups, and well you get the point, many different artists, most of these tracks have been posted previously throughout Mashup Mondays but if you just so happened to miss that week's segment then you can take a listen here. However, fret not, if you have managed to listen (and possibly download all these tracks beforehand), skip to the bottom for some new mashups that haven't been posted yet (think of it as another Christmas/holiday gift).
So let's get to the good part…the actual music. You'll find a little bit of everything: non-EDM mashups, EDM mashups, 1v1 (or AvB) mashups, multi-sample mashups, and combinations of both. And what better way to get the list going than with a live mashup that uses the most viewed YouTube video at the AMAs…because you know, we can never get enough of MC Hammer. Enjoy the end of 2012 with friends and family, and have a blast for New Years Eve — I'm taking next week off (the 31st), and will be back with the mashes on Jan. 7, 2013.
