The historic Blue Note Group will host its second Blue Note Jazz Festival, featuring an impressive lineup of fifty jazz performances occurring throughout New York City from June 10-30. After a wildly successful 2011 inaugural festival, celebrating the entertainment group's 30th year in operation, this year's festival aims to keep the heritage of jazz alive and thriving.
With high-profile artists in this year's lineup, including McCoy Tyner, Bela Fleck, Groove Theory, Cassandra Wilson, Black Thought, Soulive, Yasiin Bey, and Questlove, the scope of the festival will encompass all dimensions of jazz, not limited to flamenco, soul, tap, R&B and hip hop.
In addition to Blue Note Group-owned venues such as the Highline Ballroom and B.B. King Blues Club, performances will take place at Central Park Summerstage, the Brooklyn Bowl, the Apollo Theatre and other legendary venues. Prior to the actual festival, educational programs for youth audience members will take place, taught by JazzReach, a non-profit dedicated to teaching jazz to youth, in an effort to advance jazz talent within future generations.
Whether you're a jazz aficionado or casual listener, the festival is bound to have something for everyone. Check out the links below for more information on the event.
