I have been watching Laura Jones’s rise through 2011 and I love the energy she brings to the tables. Hailing from the U.K., this blonde beauty has a signature style that that has flourished under the leadership at Leftroom Records, a.k.a. Matt Tolfrey and Shadi Megalla. Breaking on to the scene with her Love in Me single, which held a number one spot on the Beatport charts for a hot minute, Laura has had a banner year and 2012 is looking no different. With some notable remixes under her belt, this remix of Hollis P. Monroe’s “Lonely” being one of my favourites, Ms. Jones seems to have her finger on a sound that is resonating strongly with those feeling that melodic soothing deep house that has us catching a serious groove on the dance floor.
Her latest release, Witching Hour / Inner Place off the Crosstown Rebels label, dropped on February 27th as a split double A-side with Irish producer Gavin Herlihy. The stand out on this one is the sharp gripping single “Inner Place", whose deep punchy bass line draws you in and simple piano work elevate the song to a moody evocative space. Accompanying “Inner Place” is the beat less remix of the same single and Herlihy’s “Witching Hour”. I am definitely looking forward to what is next from Laura Jones and will be waiting with baited breath for her Toronto debut.
