Underneath the dirtiness of Grimes is a gorgeous woman from Montreal, Canada. Her name is Claire Boucher and she has an evocatively charming voice. The dirt mentioned earlier is far from anything negative. From the previous album Halfaxa, the sounds from Grimes are stained with vocal distortions and computerized hooks. Some might categorize her as witch-house but I like to think lo-fi diversity. If you have not heard Halfaxe, watch the video to my favorite track "Vanessa" below.
On Arbutus Records, Grimes' newest album will be out on January 31st. It is named Visions. I have much expectations for this album and here is a teaser, "Oblivian."
