The quintessential Aussie producer, Chiefs, caught my attention from his first release, “Give It To You” about a year ago—I was sold the moment I heard something that sexy, yet progressive. Ever since then, Chiefs maintained that he is a name to remember, producing a solid debut EP Reign Dance, as well as standout remixes of Crooked Colour’s “In Your Bones” and Paces’ “Open Up Your Eyes.”
Today, I would like to present to you: Chiefs’ I Could Be Gone EP, an exciting preview for his upcoming I Could Be Gone Tour in the motherland.
His latest release continues to push bounds on his eclectic, chill-trap sound. The first of the two, “It’s All Gone” has those signature synthetic keys, but also an unforeseen R&B vibe with Owen Rabbit’s eerie vocals that he successfully delivers a futuristic spin on. In the second track, “I Could Be Down,” he injects pitch-shifted vocals, shattering snares, and an influx of sweeping synths to create a melody you could blissfully coast in for extended periods of time.
Oh, and a heads-up: keep your eyes peeled for Chiefs’ next EP Inside Outside coming out later this year.
