Tapioca and the Flea are a pack of promising up-and-comers from California with a fairly goofy name. While you'd never know just from hearing it, their latest single "Take It Slow," combining simple electronics with fuzzy guitar and a sing-along chorus, was actually produced by Ethan Kath of Crystal Castles. Now another big-league producer, Com Truise (real name Seth Haley), has stepped up to the plate to handle the track's remix.
While Kath's treatment of the original hardly indicated the Crystal Castles sound at all, the remix is unmistakably Com Truise, the spacey synths and stutter-step drums simply couldn't come from anyone else but Seth Haley. He strips the track of its guitar, underlaying the catchy vocals with a complex array of pixellated production. This is a rare opportunity to hear Haley's sound applied to a more vocal-based pop formula, since he usually lets his synths speak for themselves. Also, considering the recognition they're getting from such heavy hitters, Tapioca and the Flea definitely deserve your attention.
