There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that you're finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering, "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???" This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. From all these bedroom producers we are seeing one thing, and that is absolutely fantastic, manipulated, warped remixes.
Well weekly readers, here we are again with another spew of remixes/mashups. This weeks artist, Coldplay, is one of the most highly commented ideas for "Artist Remixed." I'm using my old structure for the post; labelling different types of remixes and not just the top 5 or 10 since I've found some in all genres. And as always highlights on my overall favourite remix which a dubstep remix from a 16 year old boy in Iceland!
MOST POPULAR REMIXES
There's no question that the most popular remixes are of "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" by Avicii and SHM. Both came out around relatively the same time and both gained a lot of support from blogs everywhere. The SHM remix is more electro house while the Avicii remix is more progressive house. Enjoy.
ELECTRO REMIXES
The electro remixes this week are not really aggressive electro (like the thrash electro you'll find in Suicide Sundaes.) The Anotherevol and Chark Mu Electric remixes are more softer disco than the Landis 2011 remix (which almost sounds like a didgeridoo breakdown.) The Feralis remix is the closest you'll find to any Suicide Sundae electro thrash since it keeps away from a upbeat sound like the other 3 remixes. Highlights on the Landis 2011 remix.
ALTERNATIVE REMIXES
These are your "chill" remixes. Not very aggressive and often matching the vocals of Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin with an ambient melody. The Alpha Dog remix is the most gentle while Rokysopp's remix has Royksopp's usual funky synths that give "Clocks" more of a beat.
HOUSE REMIXES
When searching for remixes of every type and size, I gathered a handful of house remixes. Probably my favourite section of all the genres since the Chris Martin's vocals yet again work so well with this genre. The continous beat of house matched with Coldplay's melodies go hand in hand. No wonder the two most popular remixes are both house remixes. Enjoy, highlights on Miami Life and Younglife remixes.
DUBSTEP REMIXES
I really loved all the dubstep remixes this week. Not one was a disappointment. The low bass and high wobbles work so well with Coldplay's melodies to create a perfect balance of indie with filth. To pick one that deserves my 'highlights' was rather tough, in the end I had to pick the Rogue remix since it's such upbeat dubstep with an amazing breakdown at the drop.
MASHUPS
I don't know what it is but I guess Drake and Coldplay were meant to be? More than half of the mashups I found were mashups with Drake's vocals and Coldplay songs. Maybe it's because their both huge names, who knows? I still like my idea that they were meant to be mashed together. The mashups don't disappoint either.
OVERALL FAVOURITE REMIXES
My favourite remix is a dubstep remix by a 16 year old from Iceland. His name is Jóhannes Ágúst and he's going to be the next biggest 'young producer' since Porter Robinson. Jóhannes is producing not only dubstep but electro house and progressive house. I'm keeping my eye on his talent since I have faith he'll end up somewhere big. Make sure you check out his soundcloud (link at bottom of post) and hear his quality and inspiring tracks. The remix he's made keeps the original soft melody than explodeds on the drop into a dubstep nightmare. Enjoy.
