  • definitely didn't expect something like this…Lupe usually has much better beats than this. The beat and samples in this track are too t-pain/flo rida. At least the rapping is good

    • no the sample is Float On by Modest Mouse. And its a replayed sample not directly from the original song

      • Zach,
Good ear! How can you tell that its replayed and not directly from the original?

    • the beat is from "float on." By modest mouse. not paine. It makes me mad that rappers do this. they take songs from other writer and put in their music and then they don't even acknowledge where the beat came from. It's almost insulting to the orignal artist.

  • Where would hip-hop be without the real musicians? The song is cool, don't get me wrong. But its a shame rappers have to rape songs to stand out in the crowd.

    • Where would any music be without the inspiration of other artists?

Both Float On and this song are fucking fantastic — and each for their own flavor.

      • I agree. The message in the song is great. Plus it makes me think of Modest Mouse which is also great! And hearing someone take a sample from another song (a small amount at that), and hearing what they can do with it is great. He didn't just re-use it, he changed it. It takes skill to use a sample correctly and with the right lyrics.

    • Bob Dylan's many hits were inspired or even partially sampled/mirrored from other artists of his time

  • i dig this but man it is a far cry from food&liquor. this is the same sort of vibe we all got the first time we heard "live your life" by t.i. — super recognizable sample, desperate plea to crack the top 40. hopefully this is lu's "superstar" of LASERS and not something par for the course.
