Rising R&B singer D. Watkins found his love for music in early adolescence. He first began developing his musical ear at a young age in the third grade when he started playing percussion in school. Soon, the Ohio native was performing and singing in cities across the country, already getting a taste for live performance. Looking to further establish himself as an artist to be familiar with, he checks into our pages for the first time with his engaging new project, Vibe.
Kicking in at eight tracks, Vibe is a diverse collection of tracks that finds Watkins showcasing his versatility on full display. Utilizing tailor-fit production, he highlights his knack for relatable songwriting with songs like “Slow Wine” and “Nowadays.” The former finds Watkins getting a bit more groovy while the latter focuses on those memories of that special someone who you let slip away, something that almost everybody can empathize with. While the project is at its best when the scope is directed towards emotions, one of the other standouts on the project is “Get Ya Roll,” a get-money strip club anthem that was created specifically to motivate the ladies to get paid no matter what the naysayers think. Employing thumping bass kicks, aggressively charged drum breaks and ambitious, yet smooth, lyricism, Watkins showcases his charm front on center on the high octane standout.
Though D. Watkins may be new to our pages, Vibe is just the next step for the bubbling Cincinnati native. After amassing more than a million plays on his breakout single, this project is the perfect follow up to allow listeners to get to know him. Check out the project below and get familiar.
